There comes a point and time in everyone’s life that you realize what you’ve always had. It is during this revelation that we look back on our lives and evaluate what it is in life that we have accomplished, what we regret and what we would give anything to relive. Looking back Danu Dari could recognize each and every thing in her life that she had done, and each moment of it she cherished as a gift. A gift because she was allowed to see the world, to see all that it had to offer, it’s tender hearts and rugged souls. She could remember each place she had been, every being that had left a mark on her heart. She cradled these marks for what they were; a memory of a time that there was purpose in life. There were so many memories within her and they began to play back like a movie reel as the family she had always had looked on over her broken body but saw her resilient soul. So very close to death was she but there was a spark in side of the white cosmos female that no amount of destruction could put out. As she lay on the cold ground, she watched the memories dance by.
First impressions were always one of the most important things to Danu Dari. Such was the beginning of her long journey into the lands of Arcana and the first beasts she met upon her arrival. It was a peculiar meeting in more ways than one. A Kaza’rhun wolf, a loner and she, the caretaker of Darkseid had all found themselves within the lands of Carnae Rift, a treacherous land of rocks, cliffs and other impassable lands. She could remember the starry night that lingered above her resting place as she wandered upon the two wolves, Maeve and Seamus they were called, both strong creatures in their own right. Although the creature Maeve was not overly friendly, Danu could recall that she had been injured and a melancholy feeling washed over the violet eyes wolf. She was still ad that there was nothing she could have done to help the other female as it was not soon after offering to help that her own medical issues took their toll over her. The memory drifted away in a fog only to replace her vision back to her current field where her family of the Darkseid watched over her and her clouded gaze that searched out beyond them for thing they could not see.
With her head laying on the cold earth the Cosmos’ gaze drifted out over the river. It was now that the night was beginning to descend over the wolves that had gathered and the sunset that fell over the water grasped at her attention. As color slowly came back to her world she could make out the vibrant color that painted the skies and that stars that began to awaken from their daily slumber. Purples, pinks, rend and yellows alike decorated the atmosphere as if there was someone above painting a picture just for her own amusement and delight. A familiar aura washed over her as she rested her eyes for a moment and she smile din her contentment. There was a moment of tenderness as the guardian Veasir, a voice she would always recognize, whispered in her torn ear promises of slumber. Oh how she was ready to enter into the eternal rest but there were still matters to attend to. There was still so many things to visit one last time, so many things to look back fondly on, to give their own special attention.
The tale of the meeting of Veasir and Danu Dari was an interesting one that much read like an enchanted bed time story to anyone who did not see it first hand. It had been some many months ago, almost a year to the day that Danu had last lay eyes on the spectral form of Veasir even though this was not the form she held now. There would always be a tenderness in her heart for the guardian of dreams, a fondness that could never be replaced by anything or anyone else. She remembered the day like it was dream itself. Danu watched the skies as they lightened, her world slowly becoming dark. The colors were gorgeous as they always were. Her last sight before the coming day of darkness. In her mind, she wanted that to be the very last sight she ever saw. The rising sun, a promise of a new day, if not for her, for the world around her. It was a humbling thought to know that even long after she would be gone, the world and the creatures that lived on it would carry on. Soldiers marching through time. Laying in a tight ball, she tucked her eyes under her tail, protecting them from the light, sleeping in the sun, taking in it's warmth and energy. When she had awoken to the strangest of calls, like a ghost that called to her, a call that she could not refuse. Awakening and following that haunting call and when she found it she settled on bended knee though it cost her greatly to do so. With the gentle touch of a muzzle, the great Veasir helped the ailing one to stand, taking cautious care of her. Such a tremendous kindness had always remained with Danu, a smile embedded on her face as once again the fog lifted from her mind, making her conscious of the physical world.
Her world had gone fuzzy on the edges, people flirting in and out of the encroaching darkness. They slowly became like ghosts in an eternal fog, whispering words of reasurement though Danu could not hear what they were saying for the pain she was experiencing was too great. It was like a blinding light searing through her peaceful night, the light should not be this great of a burden; nothing should be. Her breathing was slowing though still the ghosts came and went as her coat and eyes began to glow in the dimness of the physical world. The darker the night became, the more she became a beacon of light, white light spilling over them and filling the void of darkness. A pale red light emanated from the jewel at her throat, the symbol and source of her power. Slowly this light became strong and brighter until blood red was mixed with pure white. Like a hand in the fog reaching out to her to pull her back, her pain slowly resided and lifted away on white wings like it had never existed. The difference was astounding. Opening her eyes once more, the gaze turned on the winged one that had pulled her from the abyss. “you came” is what she wanted to say but could find no power for words in her body. Though she knew that Luna would understand what she meant with the look in her eyes.
Often before had she offered word to Luna, sharing her deepest thoughts and dreams with the white Guardian. Often had she tilted her head towards the moon and imply spoke, not knowing wither or Luna could hear her. She had often held the female guardian in such high respect, in such a trust that she was the only one that she ever offered to speak of her troubles or concerns. Somehow she knew that did not mind. Often looking to her for guidance, she took solace in her daily activities thinking that Luna took a moment to watch over her. She had always considered it to be a silly notion of her imagination but none the less, she took strength from the thoughts. It was now that she thought she was correct in her thoughts as she gazed upon Luna with her wings curled to her sides. Maybe it was true that she had kept tabs on her, why else would she be here? She managed another smile but something odd caught her eye behind the Guardians and above the Altus mountains. Ribbons of blue, green and purple began to trace the skies, slowly moving from the peaks of the mountains to the skies over the assembled wolves. Danu’s heart skipped a beat.
As the aurora borealis danced overhead Danu thought of the family that surrounded her and comforted her as the night slowly dragged on. Such strength in the heart of each and every one of them, each one Danu admired for reasons all their own. The fog of memory surrounded her once more as she remembered fondly the last time that they were all gathered together, even if the times were tumultuous. Thoughts of the last pack meeting filled her mind and the passion of loyalty that each one had shown. With the newly crowned Sincarla calling them all together, a fearless leader who’s heart would always speak louder than his words to her. Then stood the drowning Clorin, a soul destroyed by the loss of her son and the desertion of her mate. Nothing could heal wounds like those but there she stood before her pack ready to do whatever she had to do for them. Such bravery. As the cries of the tiny Sumomo rang out to be comforted by the proud soul Lucid as the now captured Dancer came into the scene. She knew that Lucid would be able to carry on with her head held high but her heart rang out to Dancer. She prayed for his safe return to his homeland. A chuckle nearly escaped her lips as she thought of the fiery Akira and her determination to prove herself. She knew had to prove herself to Danu but it never stopped her from trying. Oh how she would miss her family but she knew that it would be them that she watched over and never forget. It was they who made her life complete when she was searching for something that she already had. She never wanted to see them suffer again and by the Gods she vowed that she would do everything within her power to make sure that they never did. She wanted to repay the kindness that they had always shown her. Even the blue Guardian Aquaria had always held a spot in her heart. It was often by her waters that Danu rested and took strength from at night. “Don’t cry…” she wanted to say. “Do not cry for me…” she never wanted to see the Guardian look as distraught as she looked now. At the very least she had her sisters to comfort her where Danu herself could not. There was not much she could do now as darkness once again began to encroach on her.
With eyes over the mountain and color lit the sky, the memory of the battle that had just taken place wrapped Danu in it’s clutches. A cruel master this memory was though the care taker never regretted a single moment of it. The rain had since washed the blood of her allies and had since slowly drizzled away, leaving the sky clear and starry, making room for the ribbons of colors that began to dance as the hours of the morning bean to draw near. The battle was treacherous, her opponent fierce though Danu held the crimson male no ill will. There was no room in her heart for such a thing. Although he had come to take her home from her, she acted out of her duty to darkseid and she always would. Despite being her enemy, Danu did not hate him. She felt sorry for the creature. There was no love in his heart, Danu knew that much. What a cold world he must live in. She wished he would find the light and find meaning in his life. She prayed for him.
As the dawn began it’s approached, lightening the sky and putting the stars to sleep once more. She had always knew that thi would be the end for her, the dawn. As the night ended of her life, a new dawn began for the rest of the world and they would soldier on as they always had, one less in their numbers. She thought of her birth family once more and where they were now, what they were doing. She had said her goodbyes to them so long ago but her heart still hurt for them. She wondered if they would find news of her passing if they themselves still look the breath of life. Somehow she knew that they would. With the sky painted once more, the colors of the aurora borealis began to fade as violet eyes slowly closed, the glow fading from her coat. With her heart still, the white wolf took her last breath on this earth and the jewel at her throat stopped it’s glow. The snow white queen was dead.
